A strong end to the season with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool appears to have swung the right-back into favour once more.

Liverpool secured a third-placed finish in the Premier League against the odds after producing a ten-game unbeaten run to end the season.

During which, Alexander-Arnold was influential throughout and collected a string of Man of the Match awards.

Southgate has a wealth of options available to him at right back, with Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Reece James each competing for a place.

Former Tottenham man Trippier has just come off a sublime title-winning season with Atletico Madrid in which he was a stand-out star of Diego Simeone’s side, and was understood to have been closely watched by the England boss.

Walker and James, likewise, enjoyed stellar campaigns and each finished the season on opposing sides in the Champions League final in Porto, after which Chelsea were crowned European champions.

As reported exclusively by Sportsmail, those set to miss out on a place include the likes of stand-out playmaker Jesse Lingard – despite his West Ham heroics – and promising Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

Lingard has not been deemed as vital enough to make Southgate’s final squad for the European Championships – with England’s campaign starting on June 13.

Greenwood is out of the squad through injury, while James Ward-Prowse, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Ben Godfrey are also sweating on their places.

United have released a statement outlining that 19-year-old Greenwood will not take part in the summer tournament due to an injury that kept him out of the Under 21s European Championships in March.

A statement from the Old Trafford club read: ‘Mason’s club appearances were managed carefully to maintain his availability through the intensive 2020-21 Premier League and Europa League schedules.

‘But a further spell of tournament football would not be beneficial and Mason will remain at Manchester United to recuperate and prepare for pre-season training.’

News of Greenwood and Lingard’s omission will be good news for the likes of Ollie Watkins, with the Aston Villa striker previously deemed an outsider for the final Euros squad.
