Thomas Tuchel has ‘decided Timo Werner will NOT be leaving Chelsea amid interest from Real Madrid’

Thomas Tuchel has ‘decided Timo Werner will NOT be leaving Chelsea this summer amid interest from Real Madrid’… with the Blues’ boss determined to keep the striker despite his difficult season in front of goal

  • Thomas Tuchel has decided Timo Werner will not be leaving Chelsea
  • The 25-year-old endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge
  • Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was said to be interested in the striker
  • But Tuchel believes the forward has a big role to play for the Blues next season

Thomas Tuchel will not allow Timo Werner to leave Chelsea for Real Madrid this summer, according to reports.

Werner endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge after his £53million move from RB Leipzig last summer, with the striker managing just six goals in the Premier League.

The German forward missed a number of big chances throughout the campaign and appeared to suffer a crisis of confidence as he went 14 league games without a goal from November to February.

While the forward may not have been clinical in front of goal, he did contribute 15 assists in all competitions and ended the season on a high as Chelsea won the Champions League.

And new Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was said to be considering him as a possible striking option this summer.

The Blues have also been linked with Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, which would throw Werner’s starting place into doubt.

However, The Mirror claim that Tuchel will not allow the forward to leave because he believes he has a big role to play next season.

Werner, who is currently competing at Euro 2020 with Germany, recently opened up on his struggles in front of goal and said his problems were worsened by VAR.

‘I read that they want to make the VAR line thicker in England,’ he said.

‘That would be good for me because then I would have 5 more goals this season.

‘Basically the VAR is fine, and I say that, although I suffered most of it.’

With Real unlikely to land Werner this summer, Ancelotti is said to be considering a £50m move for Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who he worked with during his time at Goodison Park.
