Jadon Sancho has expressed his sheer delight for England team-mate Bukayo Saka after his stunning performance in the win against the Czech Republic.

Arsenal starlet Saka was handed a surprise start in the Three Lions’ final fixture in Group D, but stole the show at Wembley with his dazzling dribbling ability and was named as the man of the match.

And now, Sancho has taken to social media to pen a heartfelt post for Saka, despite the tricky winger having featured ahead of him.

‘Too happy for this guy, took his opportunity like I told him to!’ Sancho wrote, accompanying his words with clapping and love heart emojis. ‘Family.’

Saka played an integral role in the only goal of the game on Tuesday night, having moved the ball into the Czech half before lofting in a dangerous cross.

The ball was only half-cleared, allowing Jack Grealish to create space and clip in a delivery of his own, which Raheem Sterling met at the far post to nod home.

Once again, however, Sancho was forced to watch the team score at the tournament from the bench.

The Borussia Dortmund forward has rarely been called upon by Gareth Southgate so far, having missed out entirely on the squad for the opener and been left among the substitutes for the draw with Scotland.

He was eventually brought on after 84 minutes, and his introduction was audibly greeted with a rousing cheer from the crowd at the national stadium.

There has been bemusement around Sancho’s lack of minutes this summer, with Ian Wright, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney and Micah Richards among those who have called on Southgate to give him a chance.

Having scored 16 goals and laid on 20 assists for Dortmund, Sancho enjoyed another fine season in Germany – and Manchester United are keen to sign him.

Saka, meanwhile, revealed what boss Southgate told him ahead of his recent eye-catching performance.

‘He just told me to go out there and play my game and express myself how I’ve played at my club all season,’ Saka told ITV Sport.

‘Sometimes that means dropping in and driving at opponents and I did that, it got us up the pitch.

‘It was a good cross from Jack and Raheem was at the right place at the right time again to score us a goal. I was up there, but I’m not quite tall enough!’

Arsenal great Wright lavished praise on the 19-year-old during ITV’s coverage of the game, saying: ‘Saka, my guy. Everybody at Arsenal knows that Saka is burdened with glorious purpose.

‘You know what he’s going to do, this is what he’s been doing at Arsenal all season, getting us out of holes by being positive, going at people and making things happen.

‘That’s exactly what England needed, it’s fantastic, I’m delighted for him. Between Grealish, Sterling and Saka, they have been magnificent, run them ragged.’
