The disgraced former film producer Harvey Weinstein has been extradited to California to face more sex-assault charges, after losing an appeal arguing he was too ill to travel.
einstein, who suffers from diabetes as well as eye and spinal problems, was escorted out of the maximum security prison in Erie County, New York, yesterday.
He is serving a 23-year sentence in New York for rape and sexual assault after his conviction last year.
The 69-year-old, in a white shirt and khaki trousers, was taken in a wheelchair to a federal aircraft equipped to handle his health problems.
“Custody of Mr Harvey Weinstein was handed over to the appropriate officials for transport to the state of California per a court order,’’ the New York department of corrections and community supervision said.
The former movie mogul faces 11 counts of rape, sexual battery and other charges involving five women in Los Angeles.
They carry a combined sentence of 140 years.
He was indicted by a grand jury in March.
He maintains his innocence and contends any sexual activity was consensual.
