Did Steve Rogers Cause A Nexus Event In ‘Avengers: Endgame’?

Loki director Kate Herron has shared her thoughts on Steve Rogers possibly creating a Nexus event in Avengers: Endgame.

Disney Plus’ Loki expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s rules regarding time and choices by introducing the concept of the Nexus event: where an individual does something drastically against their pre-determined destiny. Should a Nexus event happen, Time Variant Authority agents are brought in to prune the variant in question and reset the timeline. In the show, it was brought up how the Avengers were meant to go back in time and save everyone from Thanos’ wrath. However, the series failed to mention if Steve Rogers was meant to go back in time and dance with Peggy.

After all, going back to dance with his beau practically changes Peggy Carter’s entire life trajectory. In an interview with The Direct, Loki director Kate Herron opened up about Steve Rogers’ decision in Avengers: Endgame, and if that much-needed dance with Peggy was a Nexus event.

“My theory is this: It comes down to if you’re an optimist or a pessimist. If you’re an optimist, maybe it was okay [for] them living that way, and the branch wasn’t so severe that it didn’t need to be pruned, and that meant that they could stay together. Maybe the romantics can say somehow that managed to exist. And then the pessimists [think], ‘They probably got pruned.’”

“Generally branches have to be pruned and then maintained, right? But it depends. Like if it’s alternate, it would imply that it’s running alongside our main timeline, so yeah. I don’t want to definitively say that they were pruned, but by our logic in the TVA, probably. But maybe where there’s a will there’s a way, and they weren’t too disruptive and managed to live happily ever after.”
