Manchester United U19’s suffer heavy defeat by Villarreal in the UEFA Youth League just hours before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men face their first XI in their Champions League clash at Old Trafford

The Manchester United first XI will welcome Villarreal to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening for their UEFA Champions League clash.   

The game takes place just hours after the club’s U19 side faced the Spanish giants in the UEFA Youth League.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to record a better result than the youngsters, given they suffered a dismal 4-1 defeat.

Villarreal taught the Manchester United U19’s a lesson in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon. 

Their first half goals from Joan Torrents, Pascual Medina, Marlone Foubert and Rodrigo Alonso proved too much for the Red Devils.

However, United did manage to dominate the second-half of the game and get on the scoresheet thanks to a header from Alvaro Fernandez.

United’s heavy defeat came after what had been regarded as a promising start to their UEFA Youth League campaign. 

The Red Devils won their opening Group F game against Young Boys 1-0 last week. 

Manager Travis Binnion had hoped they would carry that momentum into their fixture at Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday. 

However, Villarreal dominated from the get-go and hit the woodwork multiple times alongside their four goals. 

The U19 Manchester United skipper Shola Shoretire also picked up a yellow card in what turned out to be a disappointing afternoon.   

Nevertheless, Manchester United first XI captain, Harry Maguire, was there to show his support – cheering the U19’s on from the stand. 

Maguire and his United team-mates will face Villarreal in their Champions League clash on Wednesday evening. 

They will be looking to restore Manchester United’s bragging rights over the Spanish giants with an all-important win.
