Bravemansgame, winner of last season’s Grade One Challow Hurdle at Newbury as well as being placed at the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree’s Grand National meeting, makes his chasing debut at Newton Abbot on Sunday.

Trainer Paul Nicholls wants to use the race as a stepping stone for Bravemansgame to next month’s Rising Stars Novices’ Chase at Wincanton.

Bravemansgame emerged as one of the hottest young stars in the Nicholls yard last season

He said: ‘I didn’t think we would be able to give him some practice before the Rising Stars, but now we have had all this rain, we can.’

Nicholls will give Knappers Hill, winner of the Grade Two bumper at Aintree, his hurdling debut in the novice event named after late owner Andy Stewart, a long-time supporter of the Nicholls stable, at Chepstow on Friday.
