The clip begins on a stormy night in a tavern in the village of Emond’s Field, a lively place populated entirely by locals. The show’s main character, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), is talking to his pal Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) about Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden), a server Rand has his eye on, but who doesn’t seem to reciprocate the interest.
These adolescent concerns fall to the wayside when a mysterious hooded stranger arrives. He announces himself as none other than Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney), and then introduces his traveling companion, Moiraine. Moiraine shows her golden serpent ring that identifies her as a member of the Aes Sedai, which sets everyone in the tavern whispering. As the innkeeper attends to Moiraine’s needs, she scans the crowd and immediately notices Rand, Perrin, and Egwene.
Then the clip ends. This is a very early scene in the books, so it doesn’t reveal too much of the plot. But it does finally reveal what five of the show’s main characters look like in a complete scene, and gives us an overall idea of how the show will feel. Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer to see more.
