Paul Nicholls ended his year-long wait for a victory with three wins at Cheltenham

The scarcely believable statistic that 12-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls had gone over a year without a winner at Cheltenham was ended in London-bus style after victories for Threeunderthrufive, Timeforatune and Yala Enki.

You had to go back to Magic Saint’s win on the Friday of this equivalent meeting last year for the last win at the HQ of jump racing for Nicholls.

‘It’s nice to be back in the winners’ enclosure after hitting the crossbar over the last few days,’ he said.

Threeunderthrufive could be coming back for the National Hunt Chase in this season’s Festival after showing stamina was his strong suit when landing the mallardjewellers.com Novices’ Chase by over four lengths under Harry Cobden.

Bryony Frost was on board Yala Enki in the marathon Jewson Handicap Chase. She conjured a bold-jumping, front-running effort for a length-and-a-quarter win.

The Welsh National at Chepstow on December 27 — a race he has been placed in three times — beckons for the gelding, who still has bags of enthusiasm as he approaches 12.

Timeforatune sealed the treble by winning the Bumper under Cobden.
