The 21-year-old has represented England at every level from the Under-17s upwards and has played 13 times for the Under-21s.

This season Gallagher has been one of the most eye-catching performers in the Premier League, scoring four goals and providing two assists in ten games for Palace.

Declan Rice and James Ward-Prowse were named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for this set of international fixtures, but both players had to withdraw due to injury.

Mason Mount, meanwhile, missed the Albania game after undergoing dental surgery and is unlikely to feature against San Marino, where England require a point to make sure of their place at the 2022 World Cup.

Emile Smith Rowe, who also received a late call-up to the squad having initially been selected for the Under-21s, made his senior debut as a substitute in the win against Albania on Friday.

A product of Chelsea’s academy, Gallagher is in his fourth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge, having previously spent time with Charlton Athletic, Swansea and West Brom.

Born in England, he is also eligible to represent Scotland or the Republic of Ireland due to his heritage.
