Arsenal have question marks over the fitness of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he returned from international duty early following an injury scare.

Aubameyang, 32, finished Gabon’s win over Libya on Friday by leaving on a stretcher, raising concerns for Arsenal ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool.

The Gabon FA confirmed Aubameyang is not part of the squad currently and has since returned to London.

Aubameyang’s Gabon team-mate, Bruno Manga, reportedly said in quotes carried by Metro: ‘Aubameyang will miss the game due to injury, and the Egyptian national team is strong, it’s enough to say that they have Mohamed Salah, it will be a difficult match.’

He had netted the only goal of the game but with Egypt getting a result in their match it meant a match-up between the sides was now redundant for Gabon as they had no ability to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

The Arsenal striker has since looked to play down fears of an injury after he was seen dancing during an Instagram live stream after the match.

Arsenal fans will hope his absence from the dead rubber against Egypt is merely precautionary and he can still play a role for Mikel Arteta’s side away at Anfield.

Just two points separate the sides ahead of the Anfield clash and both managers are determined to have as healthy a squad as possible as they continue to chase down leaders Chelsea, who sit six points ahead of Arsenal.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson picked up a knock in Scotland’s 2-0 win over Denmark and that may well prove an issue for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ahead of the return of Premier League action.

But Liverpool have been handed a major boost ahead of the weekend of after striker Sadio Mane took part in team training on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old was a doubt after suffering a rib injury on international duty with Senegal, and was substituted in the 28th minute of their match against Togo in African qualifying for the 2022 World Cup on Thursday.

The former Southampton forward then returned to Liverpool following X-rays to determine the extent of the damage, with Jurgen Klopp fretting on the fitness of a key forward.

But Mane was pictured in training with his Reds team-mates at Kirkby on Tuesday morning, and did not show any ill effects from the blow he had suffered when away with his country.
