Real Madrid hope to build a front three of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe AND Erling Haaland as they look to build their attack for the next decade with an ‘anti-sheik trident’
- Real Madrid hope to combat big spending clubs including PSG and Newcastle
- Kylian Mbappe will be a January target, while Erling Haaland is also on the radar
- Barcelona may have to offload in the transfer window to sign Raheem Sterling
- But the Spanish side could still make a move for Hakim Ziyech as another option
Real Madrid are reportedly looking to invest significantly in their attack as they target a return to European dominance.
The Spanish giants have lost their way in recent seasons having won the Champions League four times in five years up until 2018.
But the club have struggled to match that form since Cristiano Ronaldo departed the same summer, and acquisitions to replace the Portuguese including Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic have failed to settle.
Real Madrid will be hoping to tie down Vinicius Junior to a new contract beyond 2024
But the Spanish giants are also hoping to land Kylian Mbappe (left) and Erling Haaland
Now according to AS they are planning another revamp in attack, starting as soon as January when they aim to revive their failed summer chase of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe was subject to multiple rejected bids from Madrid including on deadline day but the Spanish giants are determined to land the France striker who is out of contract at the Parc des Princes at the end of the season.
Madrid though are also looking to land Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, with AS claiming that the striker wants to live in Spain.
There is likely to be a scramble from Europe’s top clubs in the summer for the Norwegian striker, whose release clause of £68million becomes active at the end of the campaign.
AS are reporting on how Madrid hope the trio can lead an ‘anti-sheikh trident’ to combat clubs including Manchester City and PSG, while Marca touch on how Gareth Bale is injured again
Bale has not played for Madrid since August, but featured for Wales in midweek
Madrid will hope to pair their potential new arrivals with current star forward Vinicius Junior, who has impressed under Carlo Ancelotti this season.
The 21-year-old Brazilian has nine goals from 16 games and Madrid also hope to tie him down to a new deal, extending his contract beyond 2024.
The planned three-man attack is part of what AS claim will be ‘petro-football’ in line with their ‘Tridente antijeques’ headline which translates as ‘trident anti-sheik’. A reference to big spending clubs including Manchester City, PSG and potentially Newcastle United over the next decade.
Elsewhere, and along with AS, Marca report on how Bale has returned to Madrid injured following his 100th cap for Wales during the international break – with reference to how he has not played for his club side since August.
Barcelona will have to offload in January to sign Raheem Sterling according to Mundo, while Sport suggest the Spanish side may seek to sign Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech instead.
A knee injury has kept Bale out of Madrid action during that time but he started Wales’ mid-week World Cup qualifier against Belarus before going off at half-time. He is yet to complete more than 68 minutes of a first-team match this season.
Meanwhile, Mundo’s focus on Barcelona leads with the club ramping up attempts to sing Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg, while Raheem Sterling will only be signed if sales are made in January.
Mundo also comment on how Dani Alves will be presented with the No 8 shirt after rejoining the club.
Sport reflect on Barca’s pursuit of Sterling, suggesting that if the Spanish side fail in their bid to land the Manchester City forward they will turn their attention towards Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.
