Timo Werner is warned Chelsea ‘could soon decide he isn’t good enough’ by Tony Cascarino… who claims the German could be more of a flop than Fernando Torres at Stamford Bridge

- He even said the Germany star could be a bigger flop than Fernando Torres
Chelsea have been urged to consider signing yet another new striker by former Blues forward Tony Cascarino due to Timo Werner’s profligacy in front of goal.
Cascarino offered a withering assessment of Werner’s finishing credentials and claimed that it cost his team in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United at the weekend.
Writing in The Times, Cascarino said Werner’s impact at Chelsea could end up being less than Fernando Torres.

Romelu Lukaku was signed for £97.5m in the summer to ease the burden on Werner
Torres scored 45 goals in 172 games at Chelsea after leaving Liverpool in a £50m deal but the Spaniard failed to even nearly recapture his stunning form at Anfield.
Cascarino said: ‘Chelsea should have put United away but they have a problem in Timo Werner, whose touch just isn’t top level, and whose finishing is worse.
‘I think managers should stick by strikers but the truth is that it is less likely to happen at the big clubs like Chelsea. Once they have decided Werner isn’t good enough, they have the money to buy a replacement. I wonder if they will soon get to that point with him.
‘At the moment I don’t see him having even the impact that Fernando Torres did at Chelsea, and that was a real disappointment at the time.’
Cascarino’s remarks are particularly cutting considering Chelsea forked out £97.5m for Romelu Lukaku in the recent summer transfer window. Lukaku made his return from injury in the United draw, replacing Werner in the 82nd minute.

Werner joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020 for £45m from RB Leipzig. He has scored 15 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Chelsea currently lead the Premier League standings but only by a point after their draw against United at the weekend.
City are a point behind Chelsea, and Liverpool are two behind.
